Reeling and Rocking, Rocking and Rolling

Division, separation, disunity, disease and destruction seem to be the order of today. Probably in our history of mankind have we not seen such a state of chaos, especially here in America. Not to say this is new, because history will support the treacherous actions of mankind, however in this age of “enlightenment” we are amazed at how these atrocities still exist in such a great percentage. And it is happening all over the world. Your nation is not excluded.

Jesus says a “truth” that is not religiously based, because you must remember He was not a “religious” man. Here is what Matthew 12:25 state. “And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:” Every kingdom? Every city? Every house? Yes, every, every!

When we look at the word “divide” there are 2 meanings. The first definition can be a good thing meaning to bestow or impart as in bestow money to a charity or imparting wisdom to the next generation of life students. The second meaning is to split into factions, separate into parts or parties, or to cut into pieces. Let’s look at it this way. When healthy cells divide and reproduce they can impart positive traits and genes and cause growth and life. The dividing of the egg cell produces life. However a cell can also be divided and produce a cancerous result. This is the meaning Jesus was inferring.

It is a simple yet profound truth that somehow we do not grasp or at least tend to forget. In America, we have a government who for the last 6 years would rather be consciously impotent than productive. This has nothing to do with political parties or biases. It has nothing to do with the race of one or the creed of another. It has nothing to do with the old order versus the new reality. It has to do with the entity, in this case government being productive able to stand for the good of its citizens. Stand means to be upright and in a place of balance. It means to be firmly established and have the ability to be mobile. Standing illustrates strength and unity between parts needed to be progressive.

There are so many examples today of division:

Nations (Civil wars)

Religion (Denominations and factions)

Politics (Government)

Families

Human Race (Nationality, creeds, race, sexes)

These are kingdoms that cannot and will not stand. They might exist and appear strong and right in its ability to separate, but it is still impotent and crippled in it reality. The only final result that occurs is death, in its many forms. The first biblically recorded separation was recorded in in Genesis when Adam became impotent when Adam broke from his source of life, God the Father. The result was even forewarned, “the day you eat, you will experience a death, a separation. Even when our human house becomes ultimately divided, our spirit will depart, separate from the physical body leaving and empty shell unable to stand.

So the question is where is the kingdom, the house divided in your sphere of life? Oh and do not go to far down this road of searching because it might be good to look in the mirror first. I know, I know, impossible, but just maybe, just maybe there might be a potential division to inspect. The Bible speaks of a double minded man in James 1:8 stating that man is unstable or divided in his own interest, in all of his way.

At the time of this writing is the 25th anniversary of the taking down of the Berlin wall. This wall symbolized division that separated friends, families, father and sons. The wall not only kept people out but kept people prisoners or confined…on BOTH the east and west side. Oh if we could know true unity and live it out, especially those who label ourselves as believers. I rephrase President Reagan’s request to the Russian President at the time, Mr. Gorbachev. Believers…encompassing all nations, creeds and colors, tear down this wall. John 17:20-21 says it better through the words of Christ, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”

I can understand why the world does not really believe in the Jesus they see every day illustrated by us. I can almost understand the dissolution of our young people that they search for the answers of life through drugs, cults or false religions. They turn to gangs and other demonic promises that say join us and feel free. They say believe in our human ideology because the one you have been shown is falling short on what is being preached. Love for ALL mankind? Yeah right! What Christ are we illustrating? One of bigotry, racism, sexism and preference? To do so would make our Father the same. We see that in our churches where we label churches, music and ministry. We have the Hispanic church, the black church, the oriental church, and the Protestant church, the Catholic Church. There will be no white, black, brown, yellow or red church in Heaven. There will be no favoritism of music of praise being sung. This leads to the labeling of music. Gospel music, which is different then southern gospel, which is different, then hymns which is different then sacred liturgy. How dare we!!! Each really is all the same to the Father because there is only ONE CHURCH and your INDIVIDUAL preference of style of song does not indicate HIS preference. Yet we continue for the MOST part I want to believe unconsciously divide the representation of even HIS Kingdom so thus the church is impotent. Father I hear you… and thanks for already forgiving me BEFORE I came to this realization and my need for repenting, turning, doing a 180, “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”

U DO U Soooo Well!!

What does that look like? “You do what you are”. That line I heard in an old movie called “Along Came A Spider”. The response was “you mean you are what you do”. No…you do what you are. I thought about it and I understood. You see, the character that has been developed and established in you determines what you are. The gifting that the Father has given you helps determine who you are. America likes to say that we are a Christian nation. I would beg to question that description and say we are a “church going” nation. The reason I say that is because you can look at what “Christians” are doing and at times.. we must wonder… if we are to take the term “Christian” to be Christ like, we would be amazed if not be wilder by the image presented and displayed. You find “church going” people of all denominations have racism, bigotry, prejudice and classism pervading in dominant display, is that Christ like? You find “church going” politicians and company executives who do not give a “fe, fi, fo, fum” about the average worker barely making ends meet on $7.20 an hour yet their profits and bonus are in the 6 and 7 figure range BEFORE the decimal point, is that Christ like? What you consistently do, is who you are.

If I were to ask you “Do you know who you are?” your immediate answer would be, “Of course I do.” Well, it is also a necessity that you know who you have become in your spirit. You are a new creature in your spirit (2 Cor. 5:17), and you have to reeducate your mind to think that way before the perfect will of God will be made manifest in your flesh (Rom. 12:1-2). We are more than conquerors through Christ, and once we realize that truth and until we convince ourselves of it and walk in it, our “doing will not align to who we are. We must know who we are in Jesus (in our spirits) and of the rights and privileges that are ours. Our doing will then illustrate who we are in Christ, and are we not to be transformed and changed?

Keeping believers ignorant of who they are has been Satan’s strategy against the church. As Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” What is the knowledge that they lack? It is the knowledge of who they really are.

First we must understand that we are not of this world but of a different kingdom. Being citizens of the Heavenly Kingdom gives us the knowing of what we are sent to this earth realm to do. Romans 12:2 says it this way, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Paul didn’t pray that they would receive some new thing from God, but rather that they would renew their minds and prove (or make manifest to the physical senses) what was already there. ” Ignorance of who we are, has made it impossible for us to act in faith accordingly and do. “I can do all things through Christ which strengthen me.” We are world overcomers (1 John 5:4). So, what are you doing? Who are you, that you do so well?

EXCUSE ME BUT DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS?

2 Timothy 3:1-4… “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy; Without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good; traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.”

Does this sound familiar to you? What is your local news reporting this week? What time is it? Do you know? Are you aware?

We are constantly hearing of “perilous times” in the Middle East, the Ukraine, the west, third world countries and other various parts of the earth. To be honest “perilous times” encompasses the entire earth. Yes, even in your country, province, city and town. “Perilous times” resides in your family, your home, and even your mind. It is of different variances and intensity but it is still “perilous times”, a struggling, and a conflict. This “time” is impacting everyone, every class, every race, and every culture. Sometimes I think mankind is not at peace unless mankind is at war. What is that? Why do we seem to have the urge to usurp someone else? Where is this attitude, this brokenness, this rage, and this reaction coming from? What is the weapon of attack?

One attack strategy of the perpetrator in this time is to use seducing spirits, spirits not only highlighting lust and sex. We see and hear that constantly. It is attacking every culture. Look at the videos; listen to the music that is prevalent in our culture, especially the American culture. You cannot see a show or listen to music today without sexual suggestive dancing and lyrics being presented. This attack from seducing spirits is not just about lust but more importantly it this spirit is to lure us from our true lover, our true husbandman, our true strength and help. It is to draw us from Truth and to bond us to a lie. Its assignment is to make people question Truth and seek another. What is Truth?

Another attack strategy is spiritual deception. The only way that the enemy can gain a foothold in this world is to pervert and twist truth. So he uses men to espouse religion and tradition and superstition to bring about chaos in the name of God. He is not ignorant of God, but mankind has allowed himself to be ignorant. So he tells mankind to reach out to God. He says find him in your own way. He says there is no right or wrong way. He also empowers men to lead astray, lead from the virtuous way those who have not entrenched themselves in the Truth. What is Truth?

This can only be done through false teachers. They take the lead in engineering a path to lead people to a false, dangerous and fruitless destination. They excel in the atmosphere of fear and phobia. The pathway to false ideology becomes wide and bright when the sheep mentality of the fearful uninformed is revealed. Trust is placed on the most flimsy of support. Add to that the need to sensationalize any event through the phenomenon of real time access from anywhere in the world, we are a people open to anything good or bad.

But it is the time that we should be most concern. Nothing is by happenstance. All is by plan and purpose.

2 Peter 3:3 – Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts…

In this time some men, using the guise of politics, religion and morality are REALLY walking after their own perverted lust. They mock the sanctity of life and freedom that every human being has if their will only is to be done. They are seeking to fulfill the lust of control, money, position, sex, murder and power. They follow their own evil desire. That is their NOBLE cause. It is not only here in the United States but it is in every country in the world. It is in every religion and those who would be the head of such. History has consistently shown the hearts of men.

Sooooo, how do we overcome this? What is the winning strategy?

2 Corinthians 2:14 – Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ,

The winning strategy is not the problem. We as believers just need to NOT be afraid and be BOLD in the HIM because we are ALREADY victorious. Read it again He CAUSES us to triumph to be victorious. This is a concluded result. He will make us victorious because in Him dwells NO defeat. We just need to be willing to stand up and fight.

But a prerequisite must be that we are aligned in agreement as believers. Not as a denomination, race, culture or creed, but as believers.

Lev 26:8 – And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

The Greek word for agreement is “symphaneo” – this is where we get the English word symphony. A symphony is a collaboration of different instruments playing together in harmony. Whether you enjoy that style of music or not, there is one thing you must admit. When you hear it, there is harmony and each instrument is playing the same song in the same key on the same tempo together. but have you ever heard the orchestra musicians before the presentation doing warm up? Every section, every musician is doing his own thing. They are all playing different notes in different keys, different scale patterns and rhythms. It sounds like total chaos. But once they are united and give their total attention to the conductor, the one who knows the plan, chaos becomes collaboration, headache becomes harmony, individual limits becomes collective actuality But only when we agree. We as Believers need to have “symphaneo” in our prayer, worship, and resolve of following our “conductor” who knows the plan to victory. If God be for us, who can be against us? We should not be a people paralyzed by fear of terrorist, disease, and mayhem or any other. He CAUSES us to triumph, even in “perilous time”.

A Generation of Four “F”s

The world has seemingly lost its moral sense of decency, love, care, and humanity. Murder, mayhem, destruction is an everyday common occurrence. Mothers against daughters, father against sons. The more gruesome, the more heinous, the more exposure, the more people garner attention to themselves. WHAT? Decapitation and cannibalism has become Internet entertainment.

ISIS, yeah we are hearing about your barbaric actions, supposedly in the name of Allah, but it is also the grandfather who lives a few miles away that murders his 6 grandchildren and daughter, the Cartel drug gangs that are fighting for territory and money. It’s the teenagers seeking to see what the real thing of killing feels like after being dulled by video images and games. It’s the demented co-worker influenced by what they see on television that seeks the same glory and exposure.

Proverbs 30:11-14

There is a generation…” A foolhardy and foul generation (30:11). It is a generation that curses their father and mother. Now the word “curse” is not a meaning of “cussing them out” as in calling someone out of their name. No, the Hebrew term is means to discount, to bring to contempt, to dishonor, bring their influence to insignificance. The proverb is saying there will be a generation that will devalue the values of the forefathers and mothers. They will count them trivial. The father and mother is not necessarily someone’s immediate parents, because the scripture does not say “parent”. Let’s be honest some of our “parents” were far from being a Godly example and many of us had to overcome many obstacles despite our upbringing.

There is a generation…” A filthy and faithless generation (30:12). This is a generation of people who are pure in their own eyes but morally filthy in the eyes of a Holy and Righteous God. Note, the scripture does not say “dirty” but filthy. The word here is used for “excrement”. Think dog poo! Great Dane poo not Yorky. Before we start condemning others let’s quickly look at ourselves, however. The prophet Isaiah in chapter 64 says “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness’s are as filthy rags…” In other words even when we do everything right by human and mankind moral standards, to God they are as clean and pure as a woman’s menstrual pad or a baby’s dirty diaper. That is the reason for the GREAT exchange that took place on the cross. “Christ exchanged HIS righteousness for our sins. No, when God the Father looks at us as believers He sees us righteous THROUGH Christ Jesus. So if we think our works will some how earn merit in the eyes of God then we are members of this “F” group. Filthy! Their faith is in their own means and abilities. When one rejects Jesus, they reject the GREAT exchange leaving them to their own righteousness.

There is a generation…” A fearless and self-flattering generation (30:13)”. It is a generation that has no respect for authority whether it comes from God or man. They are filled with pride, self-flattery and conceit. They think that their own ideology is the one they should govern their lives. The problem is that we all can have our own ideology. Then the question arises which one is “right”. And as we now see with ISIS, dictatorships and other oppressive groups, one tries to FORCE through fear, intimidation and violence the acceptance of rule. What they want, they take having no regard for human life. Deep inside the valley of their reasoning they see themselves as being superior. Mere men trying to rule as the supreme head over billions of people. I am always amazed by the so called experts that have a solution for everything yet are responsible for nothing within in the context of their “solution”. “If I were the President, I would”…. Yeah whatever. The simple truth is you are not the President, so you are just pontificating without accountability.

There is a generation…” A fierce generation (30:14). A generation that has become dulled and addicted to murder and violence. Cannibalism, decapitation, rape and debauchery have become the norm. Nothing is shocking to us anymore. Zombies, walking dead, real life murder documentaries showing actual bodies have dulled our senses. We feed our society’s psyche this junk and wonder why we have reaped this strange bitter fruit. For the weak minded, it is a catalyst to explore the realm of evil. Do not be deceived this realm is real.

IT IS THIS GENERATION THAT WILL OCCUPY THIS EARTH JUST PRIOR TO CHRIST RETURN.

Matthew 24:37-39 – “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” What was significant in those days? Spiritual Decline, shameless depravity, demonic delusion, increase in crimes, exploding population and sudden destruction. All signs say we are living in the same vain as the “days of Noah”.

What are we “the followers of Christ” to do in this perilous time?

Do not fear, but stay strong with no possibility of quitting. Why… because He has overcome the world, even the condition of this time and generation. Psalm 91 implores us to decree, “I will not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day… and with my eyes I shall behold and see the reward of the wicked.” So let’s counter this “evil” generation and be the “fearless, fervent, faithful, formidable” children of the God of ALL victory. Let’s up our game and SPEAK and declare into the atmosphere the “flood of Noah”.

His Request, My Reward and Release

Luke 23:34 – Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.”

I have been prompted through various indications to touch on the subject of forgiveness. First, this scripture was something I was hearing on last week when contiplating what to blog. Then by mere happenstance I was watching a movie with family that we randomly chose called “The Railway Man” (good movie) and the concluding theme and focus was forgiveness. To top that, we happened upon an estate sale on Saturday of this past weekend and my wife purchased some items that I went to pick up on Sunday. After obtaining the items, the man who was with the company conducting the sale walked out with me and began to talk about the goodness of our Lord. He had suffered a dibiltating injury and he was in some pain and discomfort physically but he was delighting in how the Father had bought him through the valleys of life. He and I had a conversation for about thirty minutes but near the end he described how his brother had stolen $350,000 from an inheritance he should have had. He said at the time of this incident eight years ago, he had given his life to Christ. He indicated I could be in prison at this moment if it was not for the words that Jesus implored from the cross. He said to me, I heard in my spirit, “forgive them; for they know not what they do .” Now you must understand I had not discussed ANYTHING about that scripture with him but it was to me confirmation to touch on this subject.

The first question that comes to my mind is who is the “THEM”? This request seems to be nondescript, plain, indistinct. “Father, forgive them.” He does not say, Father, forgive the priest that rendered false accusation. He does not say, Father, forgive the soldiers who have nailed me to this cross. Neither does He say, Father, forgive my disciples who have seemingly forsaken me. From His lofty position on the cross seeing the distant future He does not say Father, forgive those who will in the ages to come l turn their back to me and reject your sacrifice and sin against You, yet with those ten words He includes them. He does not mention a specific accusation or accuse a specific person, race, culture or group. Even though He being God knew the names of the soldiers that nailed Him to the cross He does not mention their names for prosterity to ridicule throughout the ages. AND no, He is not willing to mention their descriptive mission saying, forgive my murderers. There are no words of specific and directed accusation, only “Father, forgive them.”

Again, who is the THEM? Because it is not descriptive we can be included. He made room for us, too. I know the tendancy is to think that the “them” is the Roman soldiers and Jewish priests and the Roman government and it was, but it was also you and me. “For they know not what they do”. They think they know but they do not.

I am glad that He made it possible for me to live under the umbrella of the Father’s forgiveness that covers my purposefull and ignorant actions that documents my guilt and reveals my “filthy righteousness”. Yet we do not know the shallowness of our self-righteousness. We think, because we go to church regularly, or we were christened or were baptized or say our prayers or read a chapter in the Bible every day; that we do not merit His forgiveness. We think our religiousness outward performances, makes us exempt from His forgiveness but I still hear Him saying “They know not what they do.” They are trusting in their own actions and performance thereby negating my redemptive work through the cross.

The timing of the prayer is intriging also. It is in the midst of His pain, His humiliate His ultimate challenge that He petitions for “us” requesting our sanctuary, the Father’s forgiveness. Would that be our request or would it be “get them” Father.. look at what they are doing to me? Today what is our prayer for those who are terrorizing this world today. ISIS, brutally murdering innocent people of all cultures.. what is our prayer? Abusers, both governmental and domestic, viciously beating those we should be protecting, what is our prayer? Those who are being abused, tortured, and victimized in ALL countries by ALL tribes, nations, races and cultures. What is our prayer? Father, thank you for your undeserved forgiveness towards us, because we still do not realize what we do and how short we come to Your GLORY!! The heart of religion seeks and desires to control other men, cultures and nations. Jesus wants to set men free to live through Him, free, whole and forgiven. Oh how He loves us…

The real take away is also realizing IF we say the same petition it will release us to live life and not be painfully chained to the wrong visited upon us. I pray this was a highlighted message even if for just one person.

Whatever …blah blah blah!!!

1 John 4:17-21

“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.”

Are you saying I cannot just proclaim my love for God and that be my identification as being a “Christian”? No you cannot.

This past week has been a revealing week spotlighting the heart of man. Not only as a country, race, culture, religion but most importantly, individually. Where have you stood in regards to the many events that have taken place? The horrific and demonic killing of the American journalist by ISIS, the aftermath of the killing of the unarmed teen in Ferguson, Missouri that has grasped the attention of not only the United States (that is becoming an oxymoron) but also the world. What of the crisis in Iraq concerning thousands being murdered not only Christians but also Muslims by terroristic bullies who sole purpose is to be feared, and in control? Where are you, where do YOU stand as an individual? It does not matter the country, the race, the culture, the religious belief or non-belief… where are you?

For instance concerning the event in Ferguson Missouri, it was stated that it is a “They” problem, meaning black people. That how they are raised and taught. It was stated “it’s their culture, it is what we should expect from “them. It is how they think. I wrote in response that I submit it is not a black or white (and throw in every other race and culture), thing. It is the heart of man. I have never been to Ferguson and I do not know anyone in Ferguson, so I do not know what “they” think. The truth is it is not a “they” problem. It is a “we” problem. If we look at ourselves as separate, superior and more “Godly” (whatever God you are worshipping or not worshipping) then we are disconnected. So what part of the we conversation are we? Are we the “we” that does the looting? Are we the “we” part that guards the stores and homes and confront the “we” looters”? Are we the “We” that hear of these crimes perpetrated upon our businesses and neighbors and without being solicited go and help clean up the mess and board up windows? All 3 of the “We” were demonstrated in Ferguson this week. Are we the “we” that will put political parties motivated by division based upon classism, racism, and greed aside and stand united against the spirit of murder, rape, torture and extortion? I live in America but I am neither “conservative” nor “liberal”. Forget that nonsense. I AM A BELIEVER!!! Deal with that Democrats and Republicans. Our (citizens of this world) skin color might vary but our spiritual opposition is the same. Prejudice, division, hate and the spirit of antichrist.

So 1 John 4:17-21 basically says stop with the bravado, the grandiose idea you have of yourself. All of you religious radio and television personalities that act as if you care about the cause of Kingdom while you really care about the size of your bank account… I declare you shall receive your just reward. IF YOU DO NOT LOVE those you do see, the people of different races, cultures, creeds, religions, sexual orientation, financial class, colors, ages, etc. How can you love God whom you have NEVER seen? In fact through John the apostle that Jesus loved, God, not me but God, calls you a liar!! Accept their choices no, but love them through their choices. Of all of the HUNDREDS of churches of all denominations that proclaim the name of Christ in the St. Louis area, why did they not join together (black, white, yellow and brown) and have a worship service in the streets by the THOUSANDS and pray that the His Spirit would so saturate the place that the looters would have bent their knees in humble submission, police would have laid down their shields and refused to bring harm bending their knees in humble submission. That news people, CNN, FOX, ABC, MSNBC, CBS, BBC and others would not have sought out the chaos but would have bent their knees in humble submission. That the cities across the nation and yes even the world would have seen such a manifestation of Christ that their knees would be bent in humble submission. That the cry of you can kill indiscriminately ISIS but at the name of Jesus, every knee WILL BOW and every tongue SHALL confess that He is Lord. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” In your nation, your city are you showing love, not yours but His love or are you just talking? Have you positively effected just one person this month by being Christ to them? Or is it a “they” problem. In response to my comment noted previously, silence. I wonder if people this weekend, in our mosques, synagogues and churches heard a message of loving and coming together as passengers on this ship we call earth and joining together to rid this atmosphere of hate?

I finish with this. A coworker during a lunch break asked me are we living in the end times, spoken of in the Bible. I responded affirmatively. The signs are all to clear and the stage has been and is being set for the return of Christ. In America we are concerned about racism, but it is a diversion, a smoke screen. The real culprit that will catch you by surprise is classism. This will supersede race, religious beliefs and political ideas. But that is another topic.

Insert Your Name Here…

Just a thought today I wanted to share… thanks in advance for your indulgence. We so often under estimate the power of words and forget through our speech we are able to create. Through your own confession of I am so “—-“ (you fill in the gap)., you become. I am so sad, I am so lonely, I am so sick, I am so happy, I am so blessed. What ever you vocally confess becomes your reality. So what are you articulating, confessing? Well for many our confessions based off of what we see or how we are feeling at that moment has not worked for our good, so let’s put His Word to the test. Let’s confess and verbally articulate who He says we are and His promises to those who believe. I am the head and not the tail. I am the lender (not only in monies, but wisdom, understanding, guidance, joy, peace, compassion… and not the borrower.) Let’s make it personal and “Insert Your Name Here”. AND NOW LET THE WEAK SAY I AM STRONG. (Joel 3:10)

Psalm 1:2 – “But (insert your name here) delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doth (insert your name here) meditate day and night.”

I underlined the word meditate which in Hebrew is “hagah”. This is more than to think about something. It actually means to mutter or talk under your breath. You ever see people on the street that are seemingly talking to their self? Sometime we think there is a screw loose somewhere? Well that is “hagah” EXCEPT we are to mutter (or murmur) the Word of God. (lol) “Hagah” also means to regurgitate or chew it again and again.. break it down so to speak. So as we today chew on a passage of Scripture let break it down, word by word. (for example “The Lord is my Shepherd” ..”the” (not just any but a specific definitive), “Lord” (one who reigns and is in control, JEHOVAH, the all existing one, the one who spoke the universe into existence) “is” (right now.. not shall be or could be but at this very moment) “my” (Douglas’) “Shepherd” (guide, director, protector, ruler, provider, watchman, healer, companion)…. you get my drift?… (cool huh?)

Ok NuMind readers, it is confession time…. Let’s make it personal… (mutter away)

Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon formed against (insert your name here) shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against (insert your name here) in judgment
You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of (insert your name here) the servant of the Lord,
And (insert your name here) righteousness is from Me,”
Says the Lord.

Psalm 118:24 – “This is the day which the LORD has made; (insert your name here) WILL (decision of my personal choice, not based on how I feel) rejoice and be GLAD in it.” (This has nothing to do with whatever transpired on yesterday or will transpire tomorrow.. but TODAY I choose to rejoice)

Romans 8:35-39 – “Who shall separate (insert your name here) from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, for thy sake (insert your name here) is killed all the day long; (insert your name here) is accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things (insert your name here) is more than a conqueror through him that loved (insert your name here). WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW, IS LOVE SWEET LOVE

1 John 4:15-17

“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.”

Have you noticed a lot of people across the world talk about God’s love and other moral things, but it often merely camouflages their real intentions. These talking heads are not peaceable, righteous people, but are deceivers seeking an opposing purpose. More than likely that purpose is self-serving. I myself have grown tired of the hypocrisy. The so called Christian conservatives that FAIL to show the heart of Christ towards children crossing the border, the leader of our country, the people from another ethnic or financial status. The calls for a “Holy war” except the ones doing the call are not the ones on the front lines while wearing Rolex watches and silently accumulating wealth. Love cannot be shown while preying on others.

Today’s Christians are the victims of an age that is apathetic to a true relationship with God. He is saying that in His own church there are some who know that He is at the door, yet will not get up to answer it and fellowship with Him! They are refusing to fellowship with Him. They are so far from Him that they do not even see their need. If there is no awareness of need, there is no desire; no desire, no prayer; no prayer, no relationship, and back to no awareness of need. It runs in a vicious circle. AND THAT becomes COMFORTABLE.

But God wants to rekindle an awareness of need. Awareness of need to see clearly how holy, gracious, kind, merciful, and good He is, and then we will want to be like He is. In other words, we so admire and respect Him and His qualities that we want to be near Him and will chase after Him, diligently seeking after Him like a lover seeking after His Love. We will exalt Him and seek to honor Him by being like Him. WHAT IS HE LIKE? GOD IS LOVE!!

Do we really want to be like God? Our frequent contact with God, or lack of it, is an easy, concrete measurement for both God and ourselves to know the true answer.

What is the purpose of love? Love is the desire to enhance another. God is love. God builds, he strengthens, he helps – all the while he is being resisted, rejected and ignored. God loves us. That means he wants to do us good. If we reject him, it is because we do not want his ways or his lifestyles. It is because we have deluded ourselves into believing that our way is better than his way.

If our lives are not motivated by love, we become corrupted, contaminated and diseased by other spiritual forces. If we do not love our spouses, our children, our families, our fellowman, then we have indicated that we care nothing about their end. The failure to love is a form of abandonment. It says I don’t care how you turn out. Wow, imagine if that was God’s thought towards you. It says your life is unimportant to me. It says I am selfish – I don’t want to be involved in your well-being. God requires us to love every man, because in doing so, we become partners with God in the redeeming of mankind, ALL of mankind not just those who look like us. When we love our neighbors, we are allied with God in salvaging ALL the human race. When we love our children, we are allied with God in the saving of ALL children. When we love the Father, we are allied with God in the saving ourselves.

When we do NOT love others, we align against the will of God. We are neglecting what God is trying to build up. We are ignoring a cause that is uppermost in the mind of God. Husbands should love their wives. Wives should love their husbands. Parents should love their children and children should love their parents. It is illogical to think that we can help any society while we are neglecting our most fundamental responsibility… to LOVE. So my question is this, “are we displaying…no it needs to be more focused, are YOU displaying the reflection of LOVE? “; because as He is, so are we in this world.” … and He is love! Where has LOVE gone, will we find LOVE, REAL LOVE in time? Where is the love……where are you? You are to be the personification of Him.

There Is No God!!

This week I received a comment attached to my post “Murder Suicide” and the comment content did not appear however the heading statement was the following:

THERE IS NO GOD, NOR HUMAN SOUL; THERE WILL BE NO ETERNAL LIFE.”

So here is my response.

First let me say…Thanks, feedback and comments are welcome and encouraged. Sincerely. Now to address the above:

Yep, you are probably right, FOR YOU, there is no God, human soul or eternal life. Who knows, there might not be a you or me. For that matter, did I write this blog or was it machine generated? Am I one or many posing as one? Am I real or fiction? Questions!! However, I have lived, experienced and recognized enough in my life to have long answered those deceptive questions concerning His being and existence, eternal life and soul and spirit. If you read any of my postings you would understand I am not about religion, I am more concern with relationship. So the statement of God’s existence or not has long ceased to be a dilemma of questioning for me. They were answered around 1963. So no more struggles with that issue.

Then comes the next question on what make my God, God? What about the god of the other faiths? I do not have an answer to gods I do not know. There are to many of them to keep up with. Some countries have more than 2,000 gods. I cannot keep up with that number, HOWEVER I do KNOW about my One God. He is cool. Unlike the god of other’s (including Christians), He does not require me to threaten, bully, force, or coerce you in accepting Him. Free will..people, you choose. You know a bully illustrates the weakest of traits in their own beliefs and character. If God needs me to force others to accept him, then who really has the power? Who really is God? Me or him? Forced love is never love at all. We all know that to be true. Believer or non-believer does not change the existence of the subject matter, one way or another.

Understand I am not here to convince anyone on His existence or your own existence in religionship (yes, I made up that word) to Him.. It is not my job to prove or disprove Deity. I am sure there are some natives in New Guinea that have only experienced their own small village of 100 people all their lives, who would doubt the existence of a creature with blond hair and blue eyes and white skin if someone would declare that truth to them. God, (or no God) forbid the idea of men flying miles in the air inside of machines. So your position is your position, cool! My knowing is my knowing. Two ends of the spectrum clearly defined. You see the seen, I see the unseen. Unfortunately, most people are in the middle of this spectrum. What I mean by that is they believe in God at their convenience. You clearly see that illustrated by how they conduct their everyday life. God is only good when good happens. He is only real when it fits their agenda and plans. So God or no God, soul or no soul, eternal life or no eternal life, who is right, who is wrong? I am sure the end of time, as we know it, will reveal the answer to those who still question. I can only answer for myself and no one else. Not only is HE my God.. but more importantly He is my FATHER! (relationship). Ahhh, my soul just smiled and did the happy dance.

It is curious though for someone who declares there is no SOMEONE, reads a blog about the One someone is in relationship with. BUT… by mere happenstance I did write a previous post titled “Ha…I made you look”.

Be happy and content my life comrade in the nowness of today, if that be your stance because there is no tomorrow. Tomorrow is always an unattainable futuristic destination, never lived, only dreamed and planned for.

Murder Suicide

Today I just killed somebody on purpose… accidentally. I am not making this public confession from a position of boasting or arrogance. This is nothing that I am doing to gather attention to myself or to even be flippant. But I am confessing and taking full responsibility so that the judgment will be clear and swift, avoiding a long drawn out trial. I did it… on purpose… accidentally. What an oxymoron. I am the rebellious, willing perpetrator of the crime of this action and I am also the accepting, reluctant victim… at least today. This is my contract my fate. It is murderous suicide that never achieves finality. You might say I am a mass murderer, a serial killer. You see you must understand my victim is made up of many facets, personalities. Some are easier to annihilate then others. When you look at immorality, lechery, lying, stealing, cheating, adultery, fornication those become easy victims. The ones that are hard to ferret out and eliminate is the religious, racial, cultural, national, denominational pride, selfishness and self-indulgence that we have to hunt down and expose. These are hard to execute. Those guys are often well camouflaged and hiding amongst the innocently guilty. It sounds good and noble to boast on these guys, yet they must die. I would like to say that I am apologetic and that I am sorry but the truth is I am not sorry or apologetic. I cannot be and stay true to my recognize calling. I am an assassin, a crucifier.

The Father gave me this thought to convey early one morning. When the Bible says we serve a God that never sleeps, it wasn’t kidding. It is nothing for the Father to call a 3 AM conference meeting with me. Really God? 3 AM?

One victim containing multiple schizophrenic personalities. How do I bring all of them to the point of death? My only victim is the one that I see in the mirror every day. I am not charged with killing or crucifying your issues. You are not my victim. It is not my job to get you straight. I have enough on my hands dealing with me. I am only responsible for my own villains. And to be honest that job is tough enough. There must be a constant visitation to eliminate that enemy within me that wants to rise and take control over the authority of God and Christ. And let’s be honest, there are many things that if we did not allow the Spirit of God to have authority in our lives, will cause us to die to the Spirit of God. There would be many actions, many thoughts, many plans that would be self-serving and selfish. That’s why the Bible says, “I die daily”. It sounds good and noble, but it is not a pleasant process. It is a crucifixion. When we are “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Matthew 16:24 KJV),”, it means we must be the perpetrator and the victim. Not only must we carry our cross but we must also lay it down, climb aboard it, nail ourselves to it and lift it up as a sacrifice and die. Daily.

We crucify the flesh by living in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), and allowing those fruits to flourish and be partaken.

But the fruits of the flesh, these personas are like zombies. They keep rising up just when you thought that you have killed and buried them, you find that they have it freed themselves from the inescapable grave. No, it is not an easy process but a necessary one. You must die to live. Who is your next victim? Look in the mirror!

I Am Hearing Voices

I have been off-line for a week or so because my youngest son and his family came to visit me here in Florida. I have not seen them in over a year and a half’s time and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit. During that time my grandson illustrated something to me. He’s approximately 15 months old and I had not seen him since he was about a month old and obviously he did not recognize me so when I saw him last weekend I went to pick him up and hold him and to show him affection. I was calling his name and immediately he began to cry and to reach out for his father despite my best efforts of trying to woo him and to demonstrate and show him love. He still with adamant fervor tried to make his way into the arms of his father, crying and with tears running down his face reaching for dad. In that, even though it was disappointing I saw the God lesson.

John10:4 – 5 “…and they follow Him because they know His voice. They won’t follow a stranger; they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.” His sheep will not follow a stranger. They indeed will flee because they don’t know this strange voice.

Now in my case, as a grandfather naturally that is kind of disappointing but in the spiritual how much more should we have the reaction of my grandson? When we hear and listen to the voice of a stranger many times we are wooed and pulled in by the voice and its promises or perceived benefits. Draw back to memory the event of Eve and the serpent in the Garden. But the Word of God says my sheep know my voice. They know the tone, yes, they know the accent, yes, but they also have an intimate understanding of the being, the persona, projecting the sound, the voice. They have an understanding of who He is. This understanding is far more than words and sound. It is knowledge derived from personal experience. His care, His loving kindness, his provision, His protection, His tender touch when He draws you in close to Himself. However, His sheep, upon recognizing that the sound, the voice, is not familiar but strange will flee and turn away and will not follow it.

Now traditionally I think most “religious” people put that “voice” that “sound” into context of the stranger being the devil or being something of a demonic nature but let’s have a Nu Mind thought. A lot of times that voice, that sound which we should flee from, are closely related to us. It is recognizable DNA. It is a part of our nature from the first Adam. The sounds are comprised of many things that we are embracing instead of fleeing. These voices or more specifically this sound is foreign yet prevalent throughout the world today. Religious or not, a Christian or not, believer in nothing or an unbeliever in everything, can you hear them? The voice of greed, treachery, manipulation, deception, seduction, adultery, bullying, sabotage, false accusation, superiority, murder, destruction, pride (cultural, self, or national), self-love, racism, sexism, politics and religion etc. They are a strange voice not illustrating or eliminating the voice, the sound, and the character, of the Father. Yet for many these voices are seductive. The promise, the bribe of power, fame and fortune is alluring. Can you hear them? Come here and hear little girl, would you like come candy? Come here and hear young man, sell this dope and make a quick buck. Come here and hear government rulers, politician, corporate executive and “religious” leader and presume a dictatorial stance against your own people and amass personal wealth and prorogate fear to bolster you own insecurities. These are familiar strange voices.

I tried animal cookies to entice my grandson from his daddy’s arms, but to no avail. A one-year-old child said I don’t know this voice, and I am not trying to get close to it. This sound, it is strange and it doesn’t sound like what my Father would say.

My lesson learned and reinforced this past week was this. RUN with arms outstretched to the Father! Flee the voice of strangers and reach out and cry for the one you can depend on to protect, hold and shield you from the strangely familiar. Understand, no matter your race, creed, religion or nationality, these voices are not from without but are from within. They are family by nature. Quit pretending you do not hear them. They are whispering to you in the darkness of the night and beckoning to you in the brightness of the day. BUT my sheep know my voice, my sound, my character and a strange sound he will not follow.

Question, what is the voice, what is the sound that is trying to move you from your Father’s presence? What voice is trying to move you from the lap of He who loves you? What voice is making you curious? What voice is it trying to seduce you with things and with positions and with power and with fortune? What is the promise? What would it take to draw you from the lap of your Father into the arms of a familiar stranger? What is getting you to compromise?

What Is On Your Agenda Today?

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” – Jeremiah 29:11

There are times when it is both good and appropriate to take stock in our lives and part of that process involves making plans for the future. Proverbs 16:9 – A man’s heart deviseth his way. We have a responsibility to plan and make decisions. In fact, decision making is unavoidable for us as creatures made in the image of God. God has given us the ability to think and to create. There is not one cognitive person who is not able to make a decision. There are however indecisive people around who deliberately exercise their wills to refrain from making a decision but that is too a conscious decision for which they will answer to God. Decision-making is inescapable and God expects us to make the wisest decisions that we can, based on the knowledge that He provides us. The mind of man (a man’s heart) plans his way. But we must not forget the second part of Proverbs 16:9. A man’s heart devises his way, but the Lord directs his steps. We must not fall into the trap of thinking that God is distant from the decisions and the choices that we make in life. We are busy planning our way, but it is God who directs our steps in accordance with the plans that he makes for us. Nothing catches God by surprise. It is not that in our lives there is a whole host of possibilities and God has to wait until He finds out what decision we are going to make and then alter His plan accordingly. No. The wonder of God’s sovereign providence is that His plan embraces the decisions that He knows we will make. At times He will take us along the path of our perceived choice and at times, He will take us in another direction entirely. God makes plans for me and for you. We ought to commit our plans to God and strive to follow His revealed will, always. Valley experiences and mountainside experiences both test your maturity and determination. Many of us want the mountaintop, rising above the cares of the world but I have learn so much more of God in my valley experiences. It is in the valley where we find the lilies and the cooling brooks. Even though it seems like trouble is on every side like the mountains presenting seeming barriers against our life’s progress, yet the father will direct us. Indeed, our steps are ordered by the Lord. We might not comprehend or agree with the direction and duration but He is the GOOD SHEPHERD. Trust Him! It can feel lonely at times but know you are NEVER alone. What you see today, may not reveal your tomorrow but keep walking, keep following Him. And like the sun rising above the distance horizon, His glorious plan will be revealed from the veil of darkness. Hopes and dreams you have given up on and do not see how they can come to pass, if He has ordained it, planned it, He will present it, keep walking.

“As for God His way is perfect”(Psalms 18:30). Once one decides to do the call and purpose of their life that God has ordained, not only saying ‘yes’ but actively pursuing the ‘yes’, the chains of doubt have a way of magically (if I might use that term) falling off of our lives, as He gives our expectation. What has the Father put on your agenda this day? What are His thoughts that He thinks towards you?

I pray that on your journey your constant companion is – Peace, PacoShalom, BekePaix, Rauha, Paz, Frede, Mir

#BringBackOurGirls

This is the popular Twitter handle that is being broadcast across not only our nation but also the world concerning the over 200 kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls by Boko Haram. I’ve spent the last couple days, thinking about my mother, as we in America celebrated Mother’s Day this past weekend. I thought of the wonderful, important and often times thankless job of being a mother, a crisis manager, nurse, teacher, chef, maid, seamstress, and nurturer. Like many of you, I thought of my mom’s sacrifices in the love that she showed raising her children and making sure that the family was safe and secure and provided for.

I’ve noticed that there seems to be a dizzy attack towards women, not just mothers, but women in general so I do not exclude those women without physical children. What is the catalyst? Why the call of emotional and physical terrorism against women across the world? Even in this nation, women and women’s rights are being attacked. Is it because of the insecurities of weak-minded men? Is it, because of the society in which we lived, we now can feel free to devalue those who we are to treasure? Do they who would propel us forward in life so easily intimidate us? I look at the nations and cultures that deny women’s access to education and careers that seemingly wants women to languish at home, unseen and unheard, out of sight, out of mind. Now I recognize some of it is cultural tradition but yet when we are stuck in tradition we are also stuck in era of time and ultimately left behind to our own hurt. I am a firm believer in the Word of God and when he declared “Let us make man in our image and after our likeness”, the Bible says male and female He created them.

Out of man came wo-man, or a man with a womb. God made them both to reign and rule over His creation NOT each other. Yet some men have taken it to another level of oppression. Are we, men, so insecure, so weak minded that we do not recognize the treasure of uniting together. Must you force 200 Christian girls to hypocritically accept another religion just to make you feel good? Those men who would perpetrate such thing shows to me a mind that can only fell bolstered by oppressive tactics.

Even in our own country, men who would blatantly lie and blatantly distort, blatantly manipulate, not for the good of the nation as they espouse but for their own personal gain, whether politically and/or financially seek to suppress womanhood. We should stand up and declare that the bully deceptive voice be silent. We should declare that apathy will no longer be our personality or character. When will this cowardly giant standup? I know you might be used to the term “sleeping giant” but sometimes I wonder if the giant is asleep or is he just a coward, afraid of confrontation. When will we recognize that God has given us a treasure? Proverbs ask the question, “Who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies”. Men rise up and quit hiding under false pretenses. Be who you are called to be and protect what has been given to you. Build a fence, impenetrable and unyielding against the onslaught. No more politics. No more political games, no party politics. Hash tag… rise up men and be all that you were called to be. Do you want an example, read 1 Samuel chapter 30. Men let us have the mindset of King David. What if it was your daughter, granddaughter, niece that was abducted? What would be your reaction, or even more telling your action? I know others are reading this blog in other countries besides the United States so the call to RISE UP is internationally. Evil only triumphs when good men do NOTHING and the time of “do nothing, say nothing” has long passed.

OUCH!!!

Ok, I have a secret that I’m only sharing with you. Do not tell anyone but about a year ago I was getting ready for work and I was fixing some sausage and egg for breakfast. However the sausage was frozen and in my haste and my foolishness I tried to pry the frozen sausage patties lose from one another with a steak knife. I know, I know in my mind I knew it was wrong. As I was holding the sausage in one hand and the steak knife in the other something inside said I would not do that if I were you and I am you. But being impatient I continued to apply pressure thinking that if I pushed just enough the two frozen patties would pry loose. Apparently they were looser than what I thought and the knife went through the patties and the knife continued and went through the palm of my hand just below the knuckles. Needless to say there was a lot of pain, a lot of blood and I was like STUPID, STUPID, STUPID. I drove the knife about a quarter inch deep in my palm and as I pulled it out there was blood all over the place. My wife, who is a nurse, came out of our bedroom, saw the situation and tried to stop the bleeding. But realizing that it was deeper and more serious then we could handle at home, we went to the emergency room. I had it cleaned, got stitches and went home with my hand wrapped in a bandage. I went to work that day as if nothing happened and continued on with my life. The pain was extreme at the point of entry but I also noticed numbness in one of my fingers. As time went on, the numbness continued. In fact it even got worse while the point of entry of where the knife went through my palm seem to get better.

Fast forward a couple months you cannot even tell that I have injured my hand however pain has continued to be recognized in my finger. So much to the point that at one time it was almost useless. I just kind of held it out-of-the-way. I am a musician and I didn’t use my finger as I normally would do. In fact anything that required usage of the left hand, I did not use that finger. It just stood out with tingling and pain shooting to the very fingertips. Even if I touch something my finger registered pain and caused me to react differently than I normally would with my left hand. I later learned there was damage in my palm that severed the nerve casing and the nerve that was directly connected to this particular finger. Yet the point of injury was not the point of pain.

Today, almost a year later, there is numbness and occasional pain; even to the point of just trimming my fingernail feel very uncomfortable.

My point in saying all this is life sometimes causes us pain but most times it is not the point of injury. Case in point, I know people who have been molested as children but yet today 30, 40, 50 years later, the pain of that injury is still being felt and recognize and causing impotency and causing abnormal decisions to be made because of the healing that still needs to be done. Yes, they can say well this happened to me as a child and I’m over it but every inclination whether that is promiscuous behavior, drugs alcohol, untethered shopping and spending, overeating, anger, depression, or unhealthy relationships’ could have been initiated by the injury. Yet we live our lives in pain, numbness and out of balance. We all have been injured in someway another maybe not as drastic as the scenario I just proposed. Maybe it’s feeling like you have never been respected and made to feel inadequate. So now you are very touchy and the least little thing can set you off. Almost everyone and I mean everyone has a hot button and you wonder where that comes from.

Our point and our time of injury is not a problem for God to bring healing. He is not limited by time. He is God yesterday today and forever. He is not subject to time, space or matter and he can speak to your past your future and your today at the same time. He desires for us that we might have life abundantly and that we might live and enjoy the fullness of life. However, sometimes we have to address the point of injury. Do not be afraid because it is only for your good as you move forward in life. Is this an easy process? No. Is it a quick process? No, but it is and can be a steady process.

I forcibly now make myself use the finger that registers pain because I recognize that the finger was never injured the palm of my hand received the injury. So I must overlook and must break through and continue to press through the numbness and the pain of the finger to where the usage of it becomes a normal part of my life. When I play the keyboard I am not having the finger in the air but I’m using that finger to help bring beautiful melody and music to those who would hear. The same applies for you and life. Press through the numbness, press through the un-comfortableness so that you might bring forth what you have been called to do. Do not let the things of the past influence your present and future. No it’s not easy but with the help of the Father and with determination you can be successful. While the point of injury is different than the point of pain through it all you can obtain the wholeness the completeness the victory and the purpose of your life’s calling.

Ha… I Made You Look

There is a series of commercials that are playing here in Florida advertising the Geico Insurance Company. I love the commercials taglines. One of the taglines is “did you know that old McDonald was a bad speller”? (I love that one) There is another commercial that’s asks, “Did you know that Pinocchio is an awful motivational speaker”? There’s one more that I saw that that sparked my heart and initiated a thought. This tagline asks the question, “Did you know that there is an oldest trick in the book”? This centers around the trick we all have played when we were younger, remember? You would say to a friend or a sibling, look over there is a (fill in the gap) and the other person would turn their head and look. Then you would start laughing and say, “I made you look”.

What came to my mind was the event that took place in the Garden of Eden between Eve and the serpent. I said to myself there is an oldest trick in the book and he made her look. Unfortunately many today are still falling for this ploy. Understand this truth is not relegated to just religion so if you are reading this blog entry and not religious keep reading. Truth is truth. In Genesis 3:1-6 we find the serpent saying to Eve “has God indeed said”? He must first get you unstable; he must get you to second-guess yourself. Verse six says and when the woman saw or when the woman “looked” and interpreted in her own mind and heart that this tree was good for food, (something that would sustain her), pleasing to the eye, (something that would externally validate her choice) and something to be desired to make one wise, she took some and ate of it. Just in looking, window-shopping, can make you discontented in what you already have. The primitive root word for Serpent means, to hiss, i.e. whisper a (magic) spell; generally, to use enchantment. This also is the same word, which means bronze in Hebrew in Numbers 21:9. It means shiny as brass.  Side note… why did it not appear strange to Eve that this creature was communicating with her? She did not appear to question the source, let alone the directive. This particular creature unlike any other had a mesmerizing effect on Eve. The real spirit, within this serpent that approached Eve was the shining one, presenting an aura of beauty and smooth words of half-truths. He sold the adventurous yet false possibilities but clever left out the devastating destination. You shall not surely die, he said. What concept did Eve have of death? She had never been down this road before, she never even seen death, so how could she understand its ramifications. His beauty awed her, his “hiss” enchanted her and she listened to his whisperings. Question…how many times have situations, circumstances, curiosity, frustration, boredom, successes, inferiority complexes, pride, fame, fear, familiarity, and impatience “hissed” and “made you look”? Why did it seem strange to other people in your life that you, one who have so much going for themselves, would listen to the “hiss”? Smoke this, do that, sleep with them, snort this. How many of your acquaintances tried to warn you not to “look”? And while you were looking, something far more valuable was being taken from you, not by force but by your choice.

In our childhood whenever someone fell for that trick nothing usually was lost but juvenile pride or maybe sometimes a piece of candy or a cookie was taken while your head was turned. However, in the case of the oldest trick in the book, the woman lost sight of who she was. She averted her focus from her position, her value, what she already possessed, to submit to the “hiss”. The “ hiss” of the serpent enticed Eve to listen to him and to seek something falsely greater. It caused her to lose sight that she was already one with the Greater One.

What do you think is more powerful: physical strength or the power of words? Words have a way of affecting us. Words can hurt or energize. They can either bind or release you. Words can strengthen or tear down. Words can worry you or set you free. The power of a few words is amazing.

Generally, when people get their own way with others or wish to deceive or enslave others, they do it with words; they want others to agree with their point of view, give them what they want, do what they ask and buy what they are selling. From the car salesman’s hard sell, the hammering of TV commercials, the relative’s request for a loan, the seduction and/or assault of words is continuous.

Words have the power to manipulate other people’s thinking, behavior, and focus. The world has been affected in many ways as a result of voices. Voices speak to you daily to sway you from the fold of rightness, fairness and integrity. You hear the “hiss” on the job. You hear it at home. Our kids are hearing conflicting “hissing” voices. Our lives are being filled with unnatural “hissing” voices from the entertainment world. You can’t take in the sound of these voices and not be affected. They will cause you to look. The voices of the world tell us that you can pull the trigger on a gun and you won’t be held accountable. These voices promote promiscuity, adultery, pornography, the chase of money and unethical lifestyles. The voices say you can be anything, say anything, or do anything and you will be all right in the end.

When it seems your life is bombarded with voices after voices and your soul is confused, all you need to do is listen to the VOICE that speaks clearly. There are many voices that vie for our attention, but only one voice that calms the troubled waters of our soul. It is God the Father’s voice that can resurrect the dreams, calling and purpose that we have given away. We were created to reign over His creation not to be enslaved by it. It is his voice that can call light into a dark situation. Even if you may have “looked”, His voice will still search you out in the cool of the day and ultimately reconcile you back to Himself. There are many voices in our world today. Who’s voice are you listening to?

After 3….. It is time to GET UP.

Let’s revisit last week briefly. Why do I say Wednesday Christ was crucified instead of the traditional Friday? Without getting into it too deeply, Passover as described in Lev. 23:4, 5 indicates on the 10th day of the first month, Nisan, [roughly equivalent to April on our calendar], every family of Israel was to take a lamb, without blemish, and separate it from the flock. On the evening of the fourth day the Passover lamb was killed, cooked, and eaten during the night. This feast begins the celebration of the exodus from Egypt. If the clock begins on Palm Sunday, and the day of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem is day one. Wednesday is day four. Also remember the Jewish day begins at 6pm NOT midnight.

The period between ‘good Friday’ and ‘resurrection Sunday’ does not equal three days and three nights (72 hrs.). How can we show that as a timeline using what Jesus Himself called “the ONLY sign” that He would give indicating who He was? (Mat 12:39 – 40) How does Good Friday to Resurrection Sunday add up to make three days and three nights (72 hrs.)?  It doesn’t. Let’s look. Buried at sundown, (Good Friday (night)), Saturday (day) Saturday (night), Resurrection (Easter Sunday (day))…Total = One day and two nights! (36 hrs.)

The days on the Jewish calendar BEGAN and ENDED at sundown, not midnight. They viewed a day as NIGHT and then DAY, rather than viewing a day as DAY and then NIGHT as we do in the western culture.  This is important when it comes to counting the three days and three nights. But what about the need for Christ to be taken from the cross and buried before the Sabbath, you might ask.

The day following Passover began the feast of unleavened bread. The first and last days were “High Sabbath” days. “High Sabbath” days are mandatory rest and preparation days. This means Passover is also the “preparation day” for the “High Sabbath”. Jesus was crucified on Passover. His body was laid in the tomb just before sunset, when the “High Sabbath” of the Feast of Unleavened Bread began. His body lay in the tomb for the first three days of this feast.

Three days and three nights – in the heart of the earth. Wednesday Jesus is on the cross from approximately 9am until His death, around 3pm. His body must be in the grave before the “High Sabbath” day, 6pm. Let’s look at the possible timeline:

The first night and day (Thursday): Wednesday 6pm to Thursday 6pm.

The second night and day (Friday): Thursday 6pm to Friday 6pm.

The third night and day (Saturday): Friday 6pm to Saturday 6pm.

Jesus is resurrected before sunset or sometime closely afterwards.

The women find the empty tomb very early on Sunday morning.

The women had to wait till the High Sabbath and following night passed, before going to the market to purchase the materials for His anointing. Then the second day they had to prepare everything. This was a long process and then they would have to again stop for the Regular weekly Sabbath to pass. The third night and day are the regular Sabbath.  At sundown, (on what we would call Saturday night), is exactly 72 hours after Jesus’ body was placed in the tomb – When the third night and day had passed – Jesus rose from the dead.

The pronouncement He is NOT dead, He is alive.

Why 3 days? Why not 2 or 4? In thinking about this I believe it has to do with the belief widely held that the spirit of a “dead” body hovered around the body before three days. In that time span the spirit could renter the body, otherwise the death verdict was final. Looking back on the Lazarus event, in order to show the glory of God, Jesus delayed His going to Lazarus after receiving the news of his illness in order to allow for “3 days” to pass. Listen to His conversation with Martha and Mary, they truthfully declared that the “3 day” period has passed and Lazarus has been dead for four days. Perfect! Jesus declares to them “I am the resurrection and the life”. In other words, there will be no doubt, when Lazarus is resurrected (in the original Greek – “stand up”), that Jesus did it.

It was common for the family to visit the gravesite in Biblical times 3 days later for final verification of death. They would roll the stone away and check just in case. But in a similarity of His decision concerning Lazarus, Jesus was in the grave 3 days and night…dead. But He IS the resurrection; he is the “stand up”. As he declared “NO MAN” takes my life, I have the power to lay it down and to pick it up again or stand up. So after the 3rd, He “stood up”, and the verdict was given…He is not dead.

About 2 months ago here in the states (I believe in Mississippi), a man apparently died and was pronounced such by the county coroner. Just as the attendant in the morgue was going to remove the body from the body bag after many hours, the bag started violently moving and the occupant was fighting to be free of the that plastic stifling enclosure. Can you imagine how you would react if you were the attendant? Apparently, there was a misdiagnosis. But this man was not going to be content to be imprisoned and given over passively to that conclusion. There was still life to live.

That leads me to my final point. There are human abilities that we have and those abilities are accomplished through three means…thought, word or deed. There are times to where all three of those abilities sometimes cease to bring forth results. They are seemingly lifeless, inert and unresponsive. It is in that time when Jesus can call forth the resurrection, the “standup power” to the more abundant life. I know sometimes we can feel like our dreams, aspirations, calling, relationship, finances, health, has been lifeless so long that it as Martha said about her brother to Jesus, it stinks. But even after the fourth day when it seems like there is no hope, no way he is still the resurrection the standup and the life. The Word of God declares that He came to give us life and that more abundantly. The situation might appear to be dead and beyond our human abilities but Jesus the Christ is the RESURRECTION and the LIFE. So if it’s after your three day or even during your three-day death experience. Understand this, because He got up you to can get up. It is Resurrection day. Get up and LIVE!

Huh Jesus…did you notice Wednesday’s itinerary?

Today is what we call Palm Sunday. This religious holiday commemorates the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem in the days before his crucifiction. The people cried out, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.” Hosanna meaning:“save I pray thee; keep; preserve” (whenever a person would come to a king for help with his needs, he would use the word Hosanna…so here the people are acknowledging Him as King and Deliverer.)

It was a common custom in many lands in the ancient Middle East to cover, in some way, the path of someone thought worthy of the highest honour with branches and leaves.

All of the Gospels report that people gave Jesus this honor. In Mark, Matthew, and Luke they are reported as laying their garments and cut branches on the street. John is the only Gospel to specifically mention palm branches. The palm branch was a symbol of success and victory.

According to scholars, the prophecy often quoted as having been fulfilled by the Palm Sunday entry by Jesus into Jerusalem reads as follows: (Zech. 9 NIV)Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey,on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

The place name Jerusalem (pronounced Yerushalaim in Hebrew) is a combination of two words. The first is “yeru” meaning “flow”. This word has several applications such as the flowing of water in a river, the throwing of something as being flowed out of the hand or as the flowing of a finger in the sense of pointing out the way one should go. The “shalayim” is from the word shalom, which means to be complete or whole. When these two words are put together they mean something like “pointing the way to completeness”. No wonder the Hebrew people were told to look towards Jerusalem.

A word study in the New King James version for SHALOM says: Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord, to be fully paid.

I just had a “Nu Mind” thought. Jerusalem, a place where flows a completed, fully paid for, “finished” work. (the death of Christ… FINSHED He would declare)

Obviously, for us followers of Jesus, we know Him to be King so the accolades given to Him upon His entrance is not a revelation, but what indicates Him to full fill the sacrificial lamb’s definition besides just a proclamation?

When Jesus entered Jerusalem I can only imagine what someone would have said if they saw His itinerary for the week. Let’s take a look. Imagine YOU are one of the disciples with him that week. Pick one, any one. Well I might shy away from the one called Judas BUT that is up to you. (smile)

You arrive on “Palm” Sunday, the crowd is praising and giving Him “rock star” treatment and you as one of His disciples are receiving a little overflow love also, I would imagine, correct? Great week ahead, you think. This is a major national festive holiday celebrating a MAJOR historical event (Passover), in the most important city in your nation, where the whole nation is gathering. This may or may not be your first time here for the Passover and Feast Holidays. It takes place every year but this time it’s different. This time the crowd is recognizing the one you are following. It is getting a little hard to push down the spirit of pride, is it not? Wow…if the first day of this trip is starting like this I can only imagine how good the rest of the trip will be. Say Jesus, what’s on the rest of the week’s itinerary? He hands you what is on schedule for the week.

Jesus, I see Monday we will go to the temple. You will probably upset some people as you overturn their money tables even though you will correctly quote Isaiah saying “My house shall be called a house of prayer” but the moneychangers have made this sacred holy place a “den of robbers”. That should be interesting to see although I do not see that going over very smoothly.

Tuesday we will visit Lazarus, Mary and Martha, nice. I always did like them. They are good people. There is nothing like being with good friends on holiday. Their hospitality is always of the highest loving quality. Yes, Tuesday should be a great day. After we leave their house later on Tuesday evening we will have a Passover meal together. That sounds really good Jesus. Oh and I see you have scheduled some prayer time for yourself in the Garden of Gethsemane. I would think you would move that schedule up a little bit, it seems late to be going out that time of night but prayer anytime is always good. Plus Tuesday is a full day.

Let’s see! Wednesday, Wednesday…uh Jesus…did you notice Wednesday’s itinerary? Capture, accusation, trial, conviction, scourging, torture, CROSS, DEATH!!! What is going on? You are the King, the Messiah all of Israel have been waiting and looking for your appearance.

Yes I am the King, I hear Him reply, but this week…I am the Lamb of God and MUST fulfill that role.

Does He? Yes I think so.

It was expected that a traveler would obtain a “sacrificial, unblemished” lamb from the “priestly shepherds” enter Jerusalem and care for and examine that lamb before sacrificing it on the fourth day. So in that timeframe, the lamb would be acknowledged to be perfect, having no faults. Not only did Jesus fulfill this feast symbolically, but also quite literally. On the Palm Sunday, Jesus rode down the Mount of Olives on a colt. He was crucified four days later on Passover. In that time there was an intimacy with those He came to be the prefect sacrifice for, and upon examination by Pilate the verdict came from his mouth, “I find no fault in Him” (which could indicate he looked for fault).

The Lamb of God… the one that God’s full fiery wrath would be applied to for mankind in order to reconcile us back to the father. Jesus through John 12:32 says and this is Jesus talking,” And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all [men] unto me”, this is from the King James Version. The original text in Greek reads like this “and I if might be elevated from the earth, all I will haul to myself”. God the Father forsook Jesus so that you and I would never be forsaken. All that we would have suffered through billions of years of eternity—the grief, the pain, and worst of all, the complete separation from the presence of God—Jesus experienced. And He experienced all of this for us. The judgment was made and the sentence carried out. The price was paid in full, once for all. He did not pay the price because of His sins, because He was sinless but He took the penalty, the sentence, the punishment, the separation that should have been mankind, all of mankind upon Himself. We could never pay for our sins. We could never become our own sacrifice. That goes against the very plan of God from the beginning. Christ, indeed is the Lamb slain before the foundation.

She did What? WOW!!!

The more I look, the more I realize how the Word of God is synchronized. Sometimes because of our lack of understanding of the culture and times of 2 thousand years ago we put things in the context of our own specific culture and reasoning. Obviously that presents a problem. Each culture, each country produces its own uniqueness and to really appreciate the history, the music, the tradition and other nuances one must try to become acquainted with those different aspects. So when we read the Word of God, for an example, we must understand the culture, the time and the people the Scripture is addressing. How does it line up with other factors found in Scripture?

We will be in the season, within a few weeks, where Christians will be remembering the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus the Christ, commonly known as Easter. It is also the same time of the Jewish Holiday Passover. Coincidence, no I think not. Maybe, just maybe in order to bring even more clarity of the perceived ending chapter of Jesus’ earthly life, we need to go back to the beginning.

Luke 2:6-14“And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them. That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger. Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, “Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.””

As an American, chances are one of the first songs you learned as a child was “Mary had a little lamb”, remember? “Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb…Mary had a little lamb, its fleece was white as snow….” I believe upon close inspection we will find yes, it is true. Mary indeed had a little Lamb.

Have you ever wonder why the shepherds were out watching over their sheep at night? Who were these Shepherds that the angels made the announcement found in Luke 2:11-12? How did the shepherds know where to go to find this babe? Why did they not have any hesitation or discussion as to what direction to take? After all it was not like the angels gave them a location. The answer is simple. These were not ordinary shepherds. They were “Priestly Shepherds” and the sheep they were guarding were “Sacrificial Lambs” which were used during the Passover. Because these particular sheep were used for sacrifice they had to be watched 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These sacrifices had to be perfect and anyone wanting to buy a lamb for the Passover would come to Bethlehem to be guaranteed of getting “the best”. Bethlehem was considered in that day the “Holding Pen” for the “Sacrificial Lambs” so on this night Bethlehem became the “Holding Pen” for God’s Sacrificial Lamb, Mary’s baby. Is it no wonder that the angels would appear first to these “Priestly Shepherds” and they would be the ones to first join Mary and Joseph in welcoming “THE ULTIMATE” sacrificial Lamb, Jesus Christ. If this indeed is true, then the nativity scene we traditionally see at Christmas with the baby Jesus surrounded by cattle, and sheep and donkeys in a lean to shelter is not a reasonable picture of this birth event. I point back to my initial comments in understanding the times and culture. If truly Christ was born in a special place for special sheep for a special event then the environment would have to be favorable for the expected outcome.

MICAH 4:8 “And thou, O tower of the flock (Migdal Eder), the strong hold of the daughter of Zion, unto thee shall it come, even the first dominion; the kingdom shall come to the daughter of Jerusalem, O tower of the flock” –

Migdal Eder was the watchtower that guarded the Temple sheep that would be the sacrificed in Jerusalem. Again these were not just any sheep and the shepherds who watched over them were specifically trained for this job. They were educated in the requirements and it was their job to make sure that none of the animals were hurt, damaged, or blemished.

Migdal Eder was where the shepherds would watch over their flock from the second story and the first story was where the newborn lambs were placed from the fields of Bethlehem. The shepherds would wrap the newborn lambs in SWADDLING CLOTHES to protect the body of the lambs which would be offered as sacrifice at the Temple just about four miles away in Jerusalem. Swaddling clothes were used to tightly bind the new lambs from being bruised and injured by thrashing around. I imagine it provided a form of comfort just like when a human baby is wrapped in a blanket at birth. The lambs would be laid in a manger until they had calmed down. They immediately understood where to go to find the newborn Messiah, Jesus Christ. He would be found where the angel had told them, wrapped in SWADDLING CLOTHES lying in a manger in the lower floor of the tower of the flock, Migdal Eder. Jesus was born in Bethlehem where all sacrificial lambs were born, and died in Jerusalem where all sacrificial lambs were killed. He was born as the Lamb to be sacrificed to take away the sin of the world.

Abraham saw the arrival of the Lamb. When he was going to offer up Isaac, Isaac asked where was the sacrifice. And Abraham said, my son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering:

In order for Christ to be the Passover Lamb of God, He would have had to fulfill the role in its entirety. The Lamb had to be born in Bethlehem, without blemish. He would have to be a male and in the prime of life as a one year lamb was accept to be in prime strength. A man in his early thirties is to be assumed to be in his prime.

In John 1:29 – John proclaimed, “Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.” In other words this is no ordinary man, this is the “Lamb of God”. Yes it is true!! Mary really did have a little Lamb! What other events significantly point out the fact that He indeed is the ‘sacrificial’ Lamb of God? We shall see next week.

Briefly, a couple things I saw in writing this blog post. First, the shepherds were not watching the flock from the comfort of the second story of the tower at night. When the enemy, wolves, bears and lions are most likely to strike in the darkness of night, they were in the field to protect. They took their call to guard, protect and serve seriously, boots on ground, realizing the value of those charged to them. What say you Pastors and Ministry Leaders? Second let’s give the innkeeper a break. There was no room in the inn because there was not supposed to be any room in the inn… and it’s not the innkeeper’s fault. In order to fulfill and satisfy Christ’s end, Mary and Joseph could not get in at the inn. Here a thought some of you have tried to get in with the in crowd and try as you might, you never really get in. It could be because you are pregnant with something special and it cannot be delivered in the company of the “inn” crowd.
